Sara Kanutte Fornes grew up on the island of Gossen outside Molde in Norway, where she also began her football career. She started playing for Gossen Idrettslag during her youth and debuted in Division 3 with SK Træff at the age of 15. There, she delivered an impressive 50 goals in 27 matches, a performance that earned her a move to Trondheims-Ørn (later Rosenborg).
The forward made her debut in the Norwegian Toppserien in 2018 and played a key role as Rosenborg consistently competed for top positions in the top division. In total, she scored 19 goals in 75 matches for the club.
In 2023, Sara Kanutte Fornes moved to Sweden after signing with Hammarby, where she primarily came off the bench during her first Damallsvenskan season but still scored six goals in 17 league matches. During the 2024 season, she was loaned to IFK Norrköping, where she quickly secured a starting spot. She scored eleven goals in 23 matches and became the team’s top scorer as they finished fifth in Damallsvenskan. Ahead of the 2025 season, she signed with Malmö FF.
