Robin Olsen began playing football with Malmö FF at the age of seven and quickly found his place between the posts. After stints with several other Malmö-based clubs, Olsen returned to MFF ahead of the 2012 season.

He made his Allsvenskan debut in October that year, starting the away match against Syrianska, a game that ended with a win and a clean sheet.

The following year, Olsen featured in ten Allsvenskan matches before becoming Malmö FF’s first-choice goalkeeper in 2014, following Johan Dahlin’s departure abroad. That season turned into a remarkable success for MFF, who not only secured the league title convincingly but also qualified for the UEFA Champions League, thanks in part to Olsen’s solid performances in goal.

In the summer of 2015, Robin Olsen was sold to Greek club PAOK. His time in Greece lasted only six months before a move to FC Copenhagen in Denmark. In July 2018, AS Roma signed Olsen as a replacement for Alisson Becker, making him the most expensive Swedish goalkeeper of all time.

Olsen kept a clean sheet in his Serie A debut against Torino, with Roma winning 1–0. He went on to make 27 league starts that season as Roma finished sixth in the table.

The following years saw loan spells at Cagliari, Everton, Sheffield United, and Aston Villa, before the Birmingham-based club signed him permanently in the summer of 2022.

In addition to his successful club career, Robin Olsen has long been the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper for the Swedish national team. Since his debut in 2015, he has earned 76 international caps and was Sweden’s starting keeper in two major tournaments, with a World Cup quarterfinal and a European Championship round of 16 as standout moments. Notably, he kept clean sheets in both legs against Italy when Sweden qualified for the 2018 World Cup.
