Pontus Jansson’s close relationship with Malmö FF began in his early childhood as a supporter in the north stand at Malmö Stadion. As a 15-year-old forward, he also started wearing the sky-blue jersey on the field after leaving Arlövs BI to play for MFF. At 17, he signed his first professional contract with Malmö FF, and on September 14, 2009, he made his Allsvenskan debut in a 2–1 win against Djurgården at Stockholm Stadion. In the spring of 2010, he was converted to a center-back and that same year contributed to Malmö FF’s 16th Swedish Championship title on the men’s side.
After a total of 128 competitive matches, seven goals, and another Swedish Championship title, Pontus Jansson moved to Italian side Torino FC in the summer of 2014. There, he began a successful international career, which saw him play in Serie A and later with Leeds United and most recently Brentford FC. During his time at Brentford, he made history as captain, leading the club to promotion to the Premier League for the first time.
On the international stage, Pontus Jansson has earned 27 senior caps—three of them as captain.
Throughout his time abroad, Pontus Jansson remained closely connected to Malmö FF. As a supporter, he never stopped backing MFF, being seen at the ground everywhere from the north stand at Eleda Stadion to Stamford Bridge in London and Stadsparksvallen in Jönköping, cheering the team on. In May 2022, he was one of around 6,000 MFF supporters at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, helping to push the team to victory in the cup final against Hammarby. In April 2023, it was announced that Pontus Jansson was finally returning home to MFF, signing a five-year contract with the club closest to his heart.
Together with Anders Christiansen, he lifted the Swedish Championship trophy in November 2023, and in 2024, he claimed two more titles with Malmö FF, winning both the Swedish Cup and the Swedish Championship for the fifth time.
