Gentian Lajqi was born in Helsingborg but soon moved to Malmö. At the age of 5, he started playing football in Malmö FF’s football school and has since climbed through the club’s youth teams. In 2022, he was part of the team that won the Swedish Championship gold with the U17 team when Malmö FF beat Hammarby IF in the final on penalties. A final that also featured his current first team teammates Zakaria Loukili, Adrian Skogmar and Nils Zätterström.
In 2024, while playing for the U19 team, Gentian scored a beautifully placed free-kick in order to win the League Cup.
He started 2025 by joining the first team squad on a training camp in Spain and made his senior team debut for MFF during the weeks there. In the friendly match against FC Slovan Liberec, he was substituted on with just under fifteen minutes remaining, in a match that Malmö FF won 1–0.
He’s has also represented Sweden’s U17 and U19 national teams.
Ahead of 2025, Malmö FF signed a senior team contract with Gentian Lajqi.
