Gentian Lajqi was born in Helsingborg but moved to Malmö as a young child. At the age of 5, he started playing football in Malmö FF’s football school and has since climbed through the club’s youth teams. In 2022, he was part of the team that won the Swedish Championship gold with the P17 team when Malmö FF won the final against Hammarby IF on penalties. He played the final together with Zakaria Loukili, Adrian Skogmar, Nils Zätterström, and Elison Makolli, among others.
Last year, he belonged to the U19 team, which won the League Cup in the spring. In the final, he scored with a beautifully placed free kick.
Gentian started the year by joining the men’s squad on a training camp in Spain and made his senior team debut in light blue during the weeks there. In the friendly match against FC Slovan Liberec, he was substituted on with just under fifteen minutes remaining, in a match that MFF won 1–0.
He has also represented Sweden’s P17 and P19 national teams.
Ahead of 2025, Malmö FF signed a senior team contract with Gentian Lajqi.
