Malmö FF signs Zecira Musovic

Malmö FF is delighted to welcome the Swedish international goalkeeper Zecira Musovic to Malmö FF!

Zecira Musovic took her first steps on the football pitch at the Helsingborg-based club Stattena IF, before being signed by FC Rosengård (then known as Ldb Malmö) in 2013. That same year, she made her Damallsvenskan debut in a 2–2 draw against Tyresö FF.

In total, Musovic played 187 matches in the FC Rosengård shirt, winning four Swedish league titles, three domestic cups, two Super Cups, and featuring in the Champions League, before signing for English giants Chelsea FC in the Women’s Super League in 2020.

In England, Musovic enjoyed great success with Chelsea, winning five consecutive league titles, three FA Cups, and two League Cups. She played 52 games for the club, keeping 27 clean sheets.

On the international stage, Musovic also boasts an impressive résumé with 27 senior caps for Sweden. She made her debut in 2018 against Russia and was the starting goalkeeper at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where Sweden secured a bronze medal. In that tournament, she kept a clean sheet in half of the games she played and was named Player of the Match in the round of 16 against USA.

Zecira Musovic is expecting a child this summer and will begin her return to elite football thereafter.

Musovic will officially join the club on July 1 and has signed a long term contract to 2028.

Maxim Khalil, Assistant Sporting Director:

– We’re incredibly pleased to bring in a player of Zecira’s quality and experience at the absolute top level. Her achievements at both club and international level speak for themselves. She’s also a strong leader on and off the pitch who will have a big impact in our dressing room.

– On the pitch, she’s a fantastic goalkeeper who dominates her area, has great reach, and from her position, she commands the back line and the entire team. Bringing in one of Sweden’s top goalkeepers in her prime sends a strong signal and aligns perfectly with our long-term vision.

Zecira Musovic:

– I love challenges and I’m someone who is extremely driven by them. When things get uncomfortable, tough, and a bit difficult, that’s when I kick into gear and get excited. The idea of Malmö FF started forming early in my mind, already when MFF showed commitment to the women’s side and flew through the league system. At that point, I felt it could be the kind of challenge that suits me when the team reaches the top division.

– I’ve always had a soft spot for Malmö FF and the mentality here. The club dares to stick its neck out and show it’s a winner — that’s something I love, and I’m really excited to be part of MFF. I’m a born winner, and without sounding too cocky, winning is all I want to do and all I’ve done throughout my football career — in Rosengård, Chelsea, and the national team. I hope I can set standards and that others will set standards for me so that we can move in the right direction on this incredibly exciting journey Malmö FF is on.

– There are very few clear answers I can give myself about when I’ll be back. But at the same time, that uncertainty motivates me, and I try to be extra meticulous every day to maximize my chances of returning to the pitch.
