Malm\u00f6 FF is by far Sweden’s most successful football club, with 27 league victories, 24 championship titles, and 16 cup titles. However, everything has a beginning, and Malm\u00f6 FF’s history began in a restaurant behind the stands of Malm\u00f6 IP on February 24, 1910. There, a group of men gathered to found Malm\u00f6 Fotbollf\u00f6rening. Werner M\u00e5rtensson was elected as the first chairman, and the first game was played against IFK H\u00e4ssleholm, ending in a 1-2 loss. Since then, however, the club has secured countless victories. Here is a brief history, decade by decade.<\/p>\n

1910 \u2013 1919<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1910.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 Fotbollf\u00f6rening is founded on February 24. Matches are played at Malm\u00f6 IP, which was inaugurated in 1896. The team\u2019s uniform is decided in July to be red and white striped jerseys.<\/p>\n

1912.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF makes its first trip abroad, traveling to Bornholm in Denmark, where a friendly match is played.<\/p>\n

1916.<\/b>\u00a0Fritz Landgren is elected chairman, serving a total of 13 years over three periods until 1933.<\/p>\n

1920 \u2013 1929<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1920.<\/strong>\u00a0The sky-blue match shirts are used for the first time during a summer tour in Germany. The Swedish Football Association revives the national football league after a few years of hiatus, placing Malm\u00f6 FF in Division 2 Sydsvenska, one of five regional Division 2 leagues.<\/p>\n

1921.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF wins Division 2 of the Sydsvenska league in the 1920\/21 season.<\/p>\n

1922.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF’s annual meeting decides that the official match uniform should consist of sky-blue shirts and white pants. In the 1922\/23 season, Malm\u00f6 FF plays for the first time in the highest division of Swedish football.<\/p>\n

1923.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF finishes in sixth and last place in the Swedish league’s western group and is relegated to Division 2.<\/p>\n

1924.<\/strong>\u00a0Allsvenskan is established as the highest Swedish football league. Malm\u00f6 FF plays in Division 2 of the Sydsvenska league, which continues to be the second-highest division.<\/p>\n

1927.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF wins the Sk\u00e5ne district championship for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

1930 \u2013 1939<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1931.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF wins Division 2 South in the 1930\/31 season and is thus promoted to Allsvenskan for the following season. The club badge changes design to the shield that forms the basis of today’s club badge.<\/p>\n

1934.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF is reported for unauthorized payments to players, and the Swedish Football Association’s investigation shows that this has been done in violation of amateur regulations. Malm\u00f6 FF is disqualified from Allsvenskan during the current season. The board is dissolved, and the players are declared professionals. After a while, the players are pardoned, allowing Malm\u00f6 FF to play with its original team in Division 2 in the 1934\/35 season.<\/p>\n

1935.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF wins Division 2 South but loses the qualification for Allsvenskan against G\u00e5rda BK.<\/p>\n

1936.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF wins Division 2 South and is promoted to Allsvenskan after a win in the qualifier against Billingsfors IK.<\/p>\n

1937.<\/strong>\u00a0After serving the disqualification awarded to the board three years earlier, Eric Persson is elected chairman of Malm\u00f6 FF, holding this post for 38 years. A bust of Eric Persson can be found today in the stand of honor, looking out over the stadium.<\/p>\n

1944.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions for the first time in the 1943\/44 season after winning Allsvenskan. Malm\u00f6 FF also becomes champions of the Swedish Cup for the first time.<\/p>\n

1946.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes champions of the Swedish Cup for the second time.<\/p>\n

1947.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes champions of the Swedish Cup for the third time.<\/p>\n

1949.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions for the second time after winning Allsvenskan in 1948\/49. The club embarks on its first tour to another continent, specifically Brazil, where seven friendlies are played over five weeks. Upon returning home, Malm\u00f6 FF introduces a new type of football boot to Swedish football, inspired by the Brazilian model. 1950 \u2013 1959<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1950.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan 1949\/50. The stats read 20 wins, two draws, and no defeats.<\/p>\n

1951.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions for the third consecutive year after winning Allsvenskan 1950\/51. A streak of 49 straight league games without a defeat ends in the final round of the league, a record that still stands. Malm\u00f6 FF also wins the Swedish Cup.<\/p>\n

1953.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions for the fifth time after winning Allsvenskan 1952\/53 and also secures the Swedish Cup for the fifth time.<\/p>\n

1958.<\/strong>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 Stadion is inaugurated in connection with the World Cup in Sweden and becomes Malm\u00f6 FF’s new home ground, marking the club’s departure from Malm\u00f6 IP after 48 years.<\/p>\n

1964:<\/b> Antonio Duran becomes the coach of Malm\u00f6 FF and stays in the role until the end of the 1971 season. During his time at Malm\u00f6 FF, he wins the Swedish championship four times, making him the coach with the most Swedish championships in the club’s history. Malm\u00f6 FF participates in the European Cup for the first time.<\/p>\n

1970.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan. The club’s first women’s team is formed, remaining part of Malm\u00f6 FF until 2007, when it changes its name.<\/p>\n

1971.<\/b> The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan. The Malm\u00f6 FF women\u2019s team participates in league games for the first time.<\/p>\n

1972.<\/b>\u00a0The club badge is improved to include the name Malm\u00f6 FF and a six-pointed star under the shield. The star is taken from Malm\u00f6 city’s first seal, dating back to the 14th century.<\/p>\n

1973.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes champions of the Swedish Cup. The Swedish Football Association establishes an official Swedish women’s championship.<\/p>\n

1974.<\/b>\u00a0Bob Houghton becomes coach of Malm\u00f6 FF’s men\u2019s team and remains in the role until after the 1979 season. The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions for the tenth time and also wins the Swedish Cup.<\/p>\n

1975.<\/b>\u00a0Eric Persson resigns as chairman, and Hans Cavalli-Bj\u00f6rkman is elected as the new chairman. The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions and wins the Swedish Cup. Malm\u00f6 FF reaches the quarter-finals of the Men\u2019s Cup Winners\u2019 Cup. As a first step toward becoming a professional association, Malm\u00f6 FF introduces youth professionals, allowing some young players to receive part-time salaries as footballers.<\/p>\n

1977.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions.<\/p>\n

1978.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes champions of the Swedish Cup for the tenth time. The first two rounds of the 1978\/79 Men\u2019s European Cup (today’s Champions League) are played. Malm\u00f6 FF defeats Monaco and Dynamo Kyiv, advancing to the quarter-finals. A women’s national league pyramid is introduced, with regional Division 1 leagues as the highest level. Malm\u00f6 FF’s previous women’s team plays in Division 2 Southern G\u00f6taland.<\/p>\n

1979.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF defeats Wisla Krakow in the quarter-finals and Austria Wien in the semi-finals, reaching the final of the men’s European Cup (today’s Champions League). In the final, held at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, with approximately 10,000 Malm\u00f6 supporters in attendance, Malm\u00f6 FF is defeated by Nottingham Forest 0\u20131. 1980.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes champions of the Swedish Cup. As Nottingham Forest declines, Malm\u00f6 FF has the opportunity to play in the final of the Men’s Intercontinental Cup against Club Olimpia from Paraguay, the winners of the South American Copa Libertadores. The first match is played in November 1979 and the second in March 1980. Malm\u00f6 FF loses 0\u20131 and 1\u20132.<\/p>\n

1981.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF’s former women’s team plays in Division 1 South, the highest league in Swedish women’s football, for the first time.<\/p>\n

1984.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes champions of the Swedish Cup.<\/p>\n

1985.<\/b>\u00a0Roy Hodgson becomes coach of Malm\u00f6 FF’s men\u2019s team and stays in the role until after the 1989 season. Malm\u00f6 FF wins Allsvenskan but loses in the semi-final of the playoff that determines the Swedish champion.<\/p>\n

They also win the Swedish Cup. Malm\u00f6 FF’s former women’s team becomes Swedish champions for the first time by winning the playoffs.<\/p>\n

1987.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team wins Allsvenskan but loses in the final of the playoff. They also reach the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup, where they lose against Ajax, who go on to win the tournament.<\/p>\n

1988.<\/b>\u00a0The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan and the playoff final. Damallsvenskan is established as the highest Swedish football league for women, with Malm\u00f6 FF’s former women’s team participating from its inception.<\/p>\n

1989.<\/b>\u00a0Malm\u00f6 FF becomes the first professional football club in Sweden with full-time football players. 2014.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan. The club qualifies for the Champions League group stage for the first time.<\/p>\n

2015.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF qualifies for the Champions League group stage for the second consecutive year. The club becomes the sole owner of its stadium.<\/p>\n

2016.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan.<\/p>\n

2017.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF becomes Swedish champions for the twentieth time. This 20th Swedish championship allows Malm\u00f6 FF to add a second star above the club badge.<\/p>\n

2018.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF qualifies for the Europa League group stage and reaches the last 16. At the end of the year, the club is struck by grief when chairman H\u00e5kan Jeppsson unexpectedly passes away. He is succeeded by Anders P\u00e5lsson.<\/p>\n

2019.<\/b> Malm\u00f6 FF qualifies for the Europa League group stage, wins the group, and advances to the round of 16. In November, an extraordinary annual meeting decides to reinstate the women\u2019s section at the club.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

2021.<\/b> The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan. They also qualify for the group stage of the Champions League. The Malm\u00f6 FF women\u2019s team wins Division 3 Southwest Sk\u00e5ne.<\/p>\n

2022.<\/b> The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes champions of the Swedish Cup for the fifteenth time and qualifies for the group stage of the Europa League. The Malm\u00f6 FF women\u2019s team wins Division 2 South G\u00f6taland.<\/p>\n

2023.<\/b> The Malm\u00f6 FF men\u2019s team becomes Swedish champions after winning Allsvenskan. The Malm\u00f6 FF women\u2019s team wins Division 1 South and the Sk\u00e5ne district championship.<\/p>\n
